Jade Kameta

Ngāti Pikiao, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Te Whakatōhea, Ngāti Porou

Jade is a passionate practitioner of mātauranga Māori and tikanga Māori at Healthy Families, with extensive experience in the public health system throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Jade utilises maramataka Māori to help the community find ways to deal with chronic health issues, and to create systems change for the wellbeing of our people. During his time at Te Arawa Whānau Ora Kameta was instrumental in mobilizing Te Hekenga-ā-Rongo, maramataka in action, online symposium. The symposium originated in Hawaii with a focus on regenerating maramataka knowledge, systems, and practices, evidencing mātauranga Māori as valid health prevention solutions. As well as to raise the consciousness of mātauranga Māori through a digital platform. Kameta shares that humans are the only living organism out of sync with nature, but the environment still affects us whether we realise it or not. "Maramataka can definitely help us. It does change the way we think and challenges how we live today. It challenges the whole western paradigm of health and wellbeing," says Jade.
